HOW TO APPLY

With our residency programme we focus on the transition from academia to the professional arena; one that’s rarely instantaneous and usually complicated with financial burden. For this reason the artists are encouraged to take full advantage of their time at 269 with attendance and participation when and wherever possible.

Through exhibiting and promoting their work to a select clientele we hope they will leave with connections necessary to succeed in their chosen field. All work sold at 269 is subject to a commission (25% for residents / 30% visiting artists) on original works, merchandise and reproductions during the artists term with us.

The artists in residence are selected from Fine Art BA and MA graduates from in and around London. Artists from Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges have been approached to submit portfolios to be reviewed by our distinguished panel of patrons, artists and major gallery owners. The short list is chosen for originality and technique through open forum discussion.

We then interview our candidates in person before choosing the two prospective residents. During their six month term at 269 each of the artists will have one group and one solo show of old and new works. The studio is divided into two plots of between 200 square ft. wall space and 180 square ft. floor space. The workspace is accessible from Tuesday-Sunday between 11.00am to 11.00pm with extended hours available on request.

Visiting artists are chosen from applications sent either from our website or by post. Our review is held every 4 months and requires a CV and 10-15 representative images of work as Jpegs. Visiting artists are not required to have professional training/experience and all work will undertake the same assessment from associates. We provide our mailing list and free venue to all artists subject to a letter of agreement available from this website. The gallery space is open from 11.00 am – 11.00 pm from Tuesday – Sunday.
All private views are hosted on Tuesday evenings from 6.00 – 9.00 pm.
